For my birthday one year when I was in high school, I received a card from "the Amazon Temptress and her Jungle Stud." It depicted two wrinkly old people wearing tarzan-like coverings. My Aunt Betty thought it was hilarious and I think she was trying to shock me. It definitely worked! Thinking about your 50something aunt and uncle like that will scar you for life!
Every family has a leader. Some are chosen and some just claim the throne. My aunt is our family matriarch. What she said was law. She's one of those people that looms larger than life. You didn't question her decisions or opinions. Even my grandmother knew better than that! Without knowing it, she helped shape me into the woman I am today.

| Aunt Betty meeting Macy |
Aunt Betty and Uncle Alvin were the only family I had in our town growing up. Family events took place at their house. I can even remember going over in the middle of the night to ride out a hurricane when I was in elementary school. I learned to type on the computer using "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing" while the adults visited. Even as I got older, she never filled my glass all the way up. I never did understand that. Maybe I would spill it. Who knows? She made my dress for a high school dance my sophomore year. It was beautiful. But her best gift to me came many years later. Aunt Betty made Macy's christening gown. It was the most beautiful one I had ever seen. I hope Macy will let her daughter wear it one day.
When they moved to Florida to be closer to their daughter, I really missed them.
My mother calls me "Little Betty" sometimes. I take it as a compliment. :)
